Glendora Woman's Club to Celebrate 110 Years of Service
Glendora --- The Glendora Woman's Club will celebrate 110 years of service to Glendora and honor the club's past presidents at the club's birthday luncheon meeting on Tuesday, April. Sharing the special day will be a musical program by the Darden Sisters Band.
The club day will begin with a social time at 10:30 a.m., followed by the business meeting at 11 a.m. The cater luncheon by Ritz Catering at noontime and the musical program by the Darden Sisters will follow.
To mark the special day's and honor the club's past presidents,, Club President Chris Lear will welcome each past president and present her with a "Rose of Appreciation"for her service to the club and community.
The special day's program will feature the Darden Sisters Band, a return engagement for the group. The program will included a selection of well-known songs and some old favorites, said program vice president Helen Storland. The Darden Band is comprised of Clarah, lead guitarist; Havi, on mandolin, Selah, on violin; and Tabbi, the bassist. All four sisters are vocalists in the group, focusing on harmonies and musical blends.
One of the club's ongoing service projects each month is Shepherd's Pantry, located in Glendora. At each club meeting, clubmembers are asked to donate nonperishable items for the Pantry that serves those in need in 10 areas cities, said project chair Gloria Liddle.
For the club's 110 Birthday Celebration, the Member's Participation Art Display and the Historian's Club Memorabilia." Members are asked to share items for the display that will also include historical items and photos from the club's archives, said Historian Rose Myers and display committee member Susan Lepkojus.
Also on display will be three recognition plaques: on plaque is from the Glendora City Council and one from the Glendora Public Library, both presented to the Glendora Woman's Club in 2012 and honoring the club as the founder of the Glendora Public Library in 1912. The third plaque is from the Glendora Historical Society, presented to the Woman's Club in 2008, honoring the club as on of the 22 historic monuments of the Society's Pride Project.
The Glendora Woman's Club, organized, on April 28, 1908, is one of the oldest active service organizations in Glendora and one that maintains it's own clubhouse at the same location. This year marks 110 years of continuing service by club to the City of Glendora, said Club President Mrs. Lear.
